Richard Coates BDS(UNcle) Pg Dip CID - CHAIRMAN
Qualified in December 1992, Richard has worked in both fully NHS practices in his early career, followed by mixed practice and now works in a fully private practice.
He has worked full time as a private dentist for several years, and devotes a large part of his day to ethical cosmetic practice and general practice involving full mouth rehabilitation cases. He also has a special interest in endodontics. More recently he has attained a post graduate diploma in clinical implant dentistry and regularly attends international implant conferences. He is also a multiple Aesthetic dentistry award winner.
Richard is an active member of the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry and has started the Academy Accreditation process. He attends conferences across the states in order to keep abreast of the newest innovations in dentistry. As Chairman of NEPD, he is committed to the quality that can be achieved through private (life changing) dentistry and is keen to help support like-minded colleagues through the organisation. He is committed to continuing the provision of post graduate advanced course with world class speakers and growing the organisation for the next generation of dentists.
OLLIE BAILEY - VICE CHAIRMAN
Ollie qualified from Newcastle University with honours in 2005, winning numerous awards pertaining to clinical and academic dentistry, including the prestigious ‘BDA Meritorious Student Award'. He underwent further training at the Dental Hospital gaining membership to the Royal College of Surgeons Edinburgh, before teaching undergraduate students alongside working in NHS practice. He then moved to Australia, working privately and travelling, before returning to the North East, where he has worked for the past eight years in the aptly named Oliver’s Dental Studio.
Ollie has undergone extensive training around the world, being a graduate of the prestigious Kois Center in Seattle, and gaining a postgraduate qualification in clinical implant dentistry from Newcastle University. He is also the past Chairman of North East Private Dentists 2013-2018 and is just embarking on a new academic and teaching pathway at Newcastle University, whilst maintaining a small commitment to practice.
Ollie is a big sports’ fan and will often be found in the North Sea trying to surf.
JAMES BOUGH - TREASURER
James qualified from Newcastle University with Merit in Clinical Dentistry in 2007, having been awarded the John Hopkins prize for his support for fellow colleagues.
James has continued to further his skills and knowledge by completing a significant number of postgraduate courses.
James has completed dental implant courses at the Sheffield Implant Centre, Newcastle Dental Hospital and at the Campbell Academy in Nottingham. To compliment this training, James has travelled to the highly respected “Urban Regeneration Institute” in Budapest, to undertake advanced training in bone and soft tissue regeneration.
James has also travelled to Munich to train at the world renowned Hurzeler and Zuhr Dental Education Institute. As part of this training, James underwent training on microsurgical techniques for soft tissue treatment and regeneration.
James completed the two year Diploma in Restorative Dentistry, which provides the skills and knowledge for advanced treatments for the most complex of cases.
James has also completed the Core Course in Conscious Sedation at Newcastle Dental Hospital, the Inman Aligner course and Six Months Smile course and will provide orthodontic treatment with clear aligners.
In addition to dental qualifications, James has also carried out a number of facial aesthetic courses in order to provide treatments such as 'wrinkle relaxing injections', 'dermal fillers' and 'Genuine Dermaroller therapy' and is able to provide personalised advice and treatment plans for skin therapy.
James is a member of the Faculty of General Dental Practice (UK), The Royal College of Surgeons, the International Team for Implantology (ITI) and the British Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry (BACD).
He has previously held an Honorary Clinical Lecturer position at the Newcastle Dental Hospital and previously lectured to dentists on behalf of the Northern Deanery (the Postgraduate Institute for Dentists).
James is Treasurer of the North East Private Dentists group and heavily involved in arranging post graduate courses in the North East.
James lives in Tynemouth with his wife Lindsay and two children and enjoys keeping fit and healthy, with many outdoor hobbies, particularly as the beach is on the doorstep! He is passionate about skiing, food and travelling to visit new places…… when he gets a chance!
Andrew Gemmell BDS, MFDS RCSEd, DipRestDent RCSEng, MPDC RCSEd, MSc RestDent, FDS RCSEd - SECRETARY
Andrew is a dentist with an established reputation for referral endodontics in the North East of England. He is a certified member of the European Society of Endodontology with an MSc in Restorative Dentistry from the University of Leeds. He became a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburgh in 2017 and is an examiner for the Membership in Advanced General Dental Surgery exam. He is a director of Kingston Park Dental Practice in addition to teaching endodontics at Newcastle Dental School. .
Melbourne qualified from Newcastle University in 2005, since qualifying he has worked in general practice in Middlesbrough where he has built up a loyal following of patients, that led to him being finalist for Best Young Dentist for the North East region two years running. He has shown his commitment to providing quality care by first completing a postgraduate diploma in general dental practice and becoming a member of the Faculty of General Dental Practitioners.
Melbourne, along with Samantha, are committed to providing quality care in a relaxed atmosphere and maintaining the ethos of the practice they are now part of. Melbourne's commitment to the quality care of his patients was highlighted by his completion of a Diploma in Restorative Dentistry from the Royal College of Surgeons, which took 2 years that allows him to provide a greater variety of treatment, meeting all the needs of his patients.
Originally from Manchester, I moved to the North East to study at Newcastle University where I graduated in 2007, and it has been my home ever since. I am dedicated to postgraduate education and passed the Member of the Faculty of Dental Surgeons examination from the Royal College of Surgeons in 2010. I enjoy all aspects of dentistry but have a particular interest in minimally invasive aesthetic dentistry, cosmetically focused orthodontics and implant dentistry.
I have completed numerous courses and learned from leaders in their fields including the prestigious one-to-one 18 month implant course at Sheffield University and a year long aesthetic and restorative dentistry course with Dr Chris Orr. I enjoy putting nervous patients at ease and helping them overcome their fear of coming to the dentist and take great pride in providing high quality dental treatment. Working at the Dental Hospital as a part time Associate Clinical Lecturer where I teach final year dental students is also a great part of my week.
Outside of work I like to stay active, playing 5 a side football and squash. I enjoy skiing and am an enthusiastic golfer when time permits. I also love watching as much football as I can get away with.
Richard comes from Wakefield in West Yorkshire. He qualified in 1997 from Newcastle University and has worked continuously in general practice.
Richard has a continuing commitment to post-graduate education and is also a member of the Dental Sedation Teachers Group the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry (AACD) and the British Dental Association. Richard is one of the founder members of and past Chariman of the North East Private Dentist group a position he held for 3 years, he has been on the committee since its start in November 2005.
Richard has an interest in orthodontics particularly invisible braces he is a Experienced Invisalign Doctor, his other interests include cosmetic dentistry and the treatment of anxious patients.
Outside of dentistry Richard enjoys spending time with his children and fiancee Clare. Together with walking their dog Monty and keeping fit.
